Director, Technical Services

Element has an opportunity for a Director of Technical Services to join our growing team. Our Director of Technical Services will be responsible for ensuring the successful operations of the analytical services at Element Santa Fe Springs. This includes management of the analytical services, and implementation of technical programs and projects in alignment with the strategic and technical objectives of the laboratory and LS business unit. The individual will also work closely with Business Development (BD) to help win new business, and provide clients with scientific and technical solutions to support their analytical needs and requirements. 



  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day activities of department managers and principal scientists including performance, scheduling, support and guidance as needed, analytical activities including timeline, budget management, objectives setting and technical operations.
  • Ensuring that development and implementation of testing programs meet departmental, company, and regulatory compliance requirements and responsible for the site technical training programs
  • Responsible for the site technical training program
  • Provide scientific expertise to project teams and to partnering/diligence discussions
  • As the technical expert, design detailed and phase appropriate work plans and execute the plans based on client requirements and requests using internal resources as well as partnership with other Element laboratories
  • Interpret experimental results and solve technical problems & Provide technical support for laboratory investigations, deviation investigation and review of investigation reports

Skills / Qualifications

  • Possess a broad knowledge of analytical techniques and technologies (e.g. LC, GC, IC, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, Karl Fischer, etc)

  • Knowledge in Extractables and Leachables, chromatography, mass spectrometry, wet chemistry in a GMP/GLP analytical testing environment

  • Relevant experience in the life sciences industry or in the Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) industry with previous managerial and leadership responsibility

  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025, cGMP and GLP regulation and agency guidelines

  • Demonstrated success in the writing of project plans and driving them to conclusion

  • Knowledge of business improvement procedures, operational plans, technology implementation
