Lab Intern

Element has an opportunity for an Intern-Lab Technician to join our paid internship program. This is a temporary 6-month internship with the potential of going permanent. In this role, the intern will learn to safely perform preparations of various pharmaceutical products for analysis by ICP-MS  (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) and ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical emission). Interns will also learn proper documentation of all processes, while strictly following established SOPs (Standard Operation Procedures), client methods, or pharmacopeia methods.  Intern work is to be performed in accordance with established QA (Quality Assurance) procedures and in full compliance with cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice). Element’s Life Sciences group supports developers and manufacturers in the antimicrobial, food and nutraceutical, medical device, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. We provide personalized testing solutions and regulatory consulting support to validate the safety and efficacy of our clients’ products at every stage of development, production and market release.


Interns will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with an experienced chemist to gain exposure and focus on the following areas:

  • Assist chemists with projects and experiments
  • Preparing pharmaceutical products and other materials for analysis by ICP-MS and ICP-OES
  • Preparing reagents and solutions, calibrating pipettes, and other related activities in support of experiments
  • Ensure documents, reports, methods, and any other relevant information related to particular projects and experiments are organized, followed, and documented in a timely manner
  • Ensure general laboratory cleanliness and organization
  • Monitoring laboratory inventory and inform appropriate personnel
  • Run departmental errands as directed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Self-motivated team players with strong work ethic
  • Some college courses in a science related field
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, customer testing specifications, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to perform fundamental algebraic calculations
