Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Engineer (Fatigue). This role is a key function in servicing our clients by ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to their demands, delivering efficient and excellent performance.  This Engineer has daily responsibility to technically supervise testing operations, assist with performance of tests and test setup and give clear technical guidance as necessary across a wide range of the laboratory's testing capabilities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for technical review of quotations
  • Review the full work scope to ensure that it can be executed in a safe way and at a high quality standard and if necessary ensuring a risk assessment is available
  • Review technical standards and requirements, and where appropriate write job specific test procedures, liaise with clients on all matters technical and status related
  • Occasional testing to be performed by the Engineer using necessary equipment
  • Speak and write in English and French
  • Occasionally have to travel to railway factories in Canada and the United States to perform inspections for our customers according to established standards.
  • Perform review and audit activities on jobs including technical contract review, technical procedure review / audit, job start readiness review and job close review

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of AREMA Chapter 30 and Chapter 4 standards
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (OIQ)
  • Ability to support the training of others to a high technical standard
  • Familiar with a wide range of laboratory techniques from wet chemistry to FTIR, UV absorption, atomic absorption spectroscopy, NMR, XRF, gas/gas-liquid chromatography
  • Familiar with a wide range of polymer properties, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity
  • Familiar with a wide range of materials conversion techniques including injection moulding, extrusion, calendaring, blow moulding, cast and blow film
