Overview

The Director of Security Operations is responsible for the overall operations in regard to IT, information and data security, building security systems, and identity and access management. This important role is an individual contributor responsible for all elements of information and data security, as well as some elements of physical, on-site security within the organization.


As well as day-to-day operations, the Director of Security Operations will also be responsible for strategic vision, scoping of requirements, system design, applications optimization, production implementation, incident response, budgetary control, and adherence to any necessary protocols, regulations, or legal requirements. This individual will oversee the security of multiple laboratories throughout the USA (California, Maryland, Minneapolis, Oregon, and Texas).

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement systems and oversee testing procedures to improve the security and robustness of the organization’s infrastructure and associated IT systems
  • Identify and safeguard the organization from intrusion, security threats, security weaknesses, software bugs and exploits
  • Build and maintain security plan and training programs (Reduce facility threat levels, improve facility capabilities, oversee risk assessment steps, physical security controls)
  • Perform security audits and oversee all reporting (Monitor daily activities, incident reports and maintenance reports)
  • Creation and execution of all IT and Data Security related strategies enhancing the reliability and security of IT systems, projects, and data
  • Liaison with senior level management and other key stakeholders plus analysts, programmers, and other IT in the organizatioin
  • Oversight of overall IT, Data, Information Security, Identity, and Access Management policies
  • Lead training and security awareness programs
  • Ensure compliance with government’s standards and related legislation, such as the Data Protection Act and ISO standards
  • Management of partners, key stakeholders, vendors or third-party service and solution providers

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Computer Science, IT, or Cyber Security; Master’s degree a plus
  • 3 - 5 years' experience operating at a strategic leadership level, while also being engaged in daily cyber security and office security matters
  • In-depth project management skills with the ability to translate tech jargon into understandable language
  • Understanding of current legislation and regulations pertaining to data protection / security
  • Successful track record of effective project coordination, prioritization, collaboration, organization, and timely project delivery
  • Knowledge of relevant IT security related hardware, software, and vendor solutions
  • An overall understanding of scripting and source code programming languages
  • Ability to quickly get to the root cause of issues
