  • Ownership and delivery of the site/s profit and loss
  • Accurate reporting of financial information to the leadership team
  • Understand and implement the Company's health, safety, environmental and quality policies, ensuring that the necessary procedures, rules and regulations designed to achieve implementation are formulated, published and applied
  • Oversee the development of a leading HSEQ culture
  • Maintaining and establishing effective relationships with existing and potential clients
  • Develop and foster a client focussed culture
  • Track trends and developments that may affect our organisations ability to meet current and future client needs
  • Identify benefits for clients, seek out ways to add value
  • Identify and plan activities that will result in an overall improvement to services
  • Challenge inefficient or ineffective work processes and offer constructive alternatives
  • Establish service standards and develop strategies to ensure staff meet them
  • Building teamwork, collaboration and employee engagement
  • Ensure that within your business you make resources and time available for development activities
  • Ensure that all of your staff have equal access to development opportunities
  • Provide opportunities for development through tools assignments and mentoring and coaching relationships
  • Assign and communicate roles and accountabilities to maximise team effectiveness
  • Establish and communicate your team's credibility and capability with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate your team's successes throughout the organisation
  • Work with your teams to set programmes and operational goals in keeping with the sector strategy
  • Work with staff to set strategic goals for your own part of the sector
  • For your site/s continually assess the gap between current state and desired future direction and establish effective ways of closing that gap
  • Participate in day to day operations  e.g. regularly monitor different operations within the business
  • Inspire others with a shared vision of success
  • Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies and procedures by all staff
  • Direct the human resource management function for the site/s by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation and performance appraisal processes.
  • Any other duties deemed commensurate with the position of General Manager


Skills / Qualifications

  • A Scientific/Engineering degree, MBA or equivalent
  • Significant experience managing people
  • Infrastructure within a commercially motivated environment
  • An understanding of a quality driven commercial scientific environment
  • Management knowledge and skills to improve the laboratory
  • Experience of training and mentoring others
  • A professional individual with excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to foster trust and respect from his/her reports
  • Strategic thinker
  • Able to make clear decisions and present them effectively
  • Confident and assertive with the ability to provide effective leadership, motivate staff and foster a collaborative team spirit in a dynamic laboratory environment
  • The ability to lead by example embodying core company values; quality and professional integrity
  • Positive and enthusiastic personality a good communicator and team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Highly flexible with proactive approach to tasks
