Element has an opportunity for a EMC Test Engineer with a strong focus on RF wireless testing to join our Irvine, CA location. As a member of the operations team, the primary function of the EMC Test Engineer will be to focus on conducting compliance testing (setup, measure, and document results) on a wide variety of products while interfacing with customers on a daily basis. The most common radio products include, but is not limited to, 802.11abgn, BT, Zigbee radios. The applicant needs to possess an understanding of the following standards: IEC 60601-1-2, ETSI EN 301-489-1, EN 300 328, EN 301 893, ANSI C63.10, RSS-GEN.
The position requires an outgoing, self-confident individual who understands meeting and exceeding customer expectations. The candidate must have exceptional customer service skills, be motivated, well organized, and detailed oriented. In addition, the candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently with a strong sense of ownership and pride for the task at hand.
Work under the direction of the Lab Manager
Conduct a variety of EMC and RF tests which includes setting up test equipment and customer equipment, performing testing to applicable standards or test plans, and accurately documenting the testing process and outcome
Understand customer test plans and how to properly follow laboratory technical procedures and test specifications
Setup test equipment, and follow written specifications necessary for the proper performance of the test
Maintain in-depth knowledge of test standards, product test procedures, and instrumentation
Accurately observe and records test progress and results. Organize and document data for each assigned project
Interacts with customers during the testing process, periodically assist with troubleshooting and development modifications
Identify instrumentation in need of calibration and ensures it is not used until properly calibrated
Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to safety, environment, and corporate governance
Apply the principals of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the performance of daily work responsibilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work area
Abide by and ensures that all duties are performed in accordance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE), Trade Compliance, and Quality practices, policies, and regulations
Maintain client confidentiality at all times
Minimum of 4 - 6 years working in Regulatory Compliance with specific in-depth experience in EMC Testing & Certification of Wireless Device Technologies
Experience testing devices with wireless capabilities (i.e. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc.)
Knowledge in the radio test standards for North America, Europe, Japan, and South Korea.
Proven ability to use EMC test equipment such as EMI receivers, Anechoic Chambers, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.
Bachelor’s degree in electronics or equivalent electronics testing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of basic principles of electrical and electronic theory
Solid working knowledge of personal computers encompassing hardware and software applications (e.g. proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to work flexible work hours to accommodate customer and lab testing requirements
Ability to manage time when dealing with multiple projects with varying deadlines and multiple priorities
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect
Experience in interpreting testing procedures and requirements.
Ability to interface with peers and clients
Strong attention to detail; accountability
