Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Machine Operator/Finisher to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, this position performs a variety of routine and non-routine machining assignments within the department assigned and ensures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Uses cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications
  • Sets up and performs a variety of machining tasks according to customer specifications and requirements
  • Requires minimal supervision and technical input from Department Manager, Principal Machinist, Project
  • Coordinator, or Engineer
  • Possesses the ability to mentor and train colleagues who have less experience through effective communication of machining process and technical data
  • Ability to transfer technical knowledge of machining procedures/requirements and successfully satisfy and meet customer expectations
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance and schedules preventative maintenance
  • Gathers and records dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements
  • Applies the principals of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the performance of daily work responsibilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work area
  • Abides by and ensures that all duties are performed in accordance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE), Trade Compliance, and Quality practices, policies, and regulations
  • Maintains customer confidentiality at all times

Skills / Qualifications

  • Associates degree or vocational certificate in a mechanical related field plus three (3) to five (5) years of advanced machine operation experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of machine operation and laboratory safety
  • In-depth understanding of specimen preparation
  • Possess a solid understanding related to machining concepts, measuring instruments, and dimensional concepts.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the company

NOTE:  This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services.  U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), or U.S. Government export authorization is required.
