Test Engineer

Element has an opportunity for a Test Engineer to join our growing team. This position is to design and implement the tests conducted on customer products by creating the technical road map that satisfies the customer requirements. Works closely with Test Technicians and internal customers and acts as the technical guide as the program moves through each phase.



  • Designs and implements functional pneumatic test rigs and systems that support safe, accurate, and efficient test execution
  • Creates 2D schematics, 3D models, and drawings for fabrication using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
  • Responsible for creating the technical road map that satisfies customer requirements
  • Acts as Project Manager for assigned projects, offering guidance and direction to Test Technicians and customers throughout the testing process - test setup, progression, and results
  • Organizes, documents, and interprets data for each assigned project
  • Able to design all fixturing, equipment, and processes needed for implementation of new ASTM test methods
  • Troubleshoot and repair custom test equipment
  • Interacts with customers during the testing process; assists with troubleshooting, development, and schedule modifications
  • Utilizes sensors, module based software (e.g. Labview), and control theory to develop complete data acquisition and control systems
  • Researches and orders equipment based on immediate needs while maintaining facility standards
  • Conducts commissioning and/or testing of systems, especially for large, complex, or unique programs
  • Utilizes facility assets including liquid and gaseous nitrogen, air compressor, high temperature furnace, and other resources, as needed to replicate customer specified conditions for products under test
  • Ensures compliance with all Company policies including but not limited to Terms and Conditions,
  • Trade Compliance, treatment of others, moral code of conduct, and Employee Handbook
  • Ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to safety, environment, and corporate governance
  • Applies the principals of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the performance of daily work responsibilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work area
  • Maintains client confidentiality at all times

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering plus three (3) to five (5) years of non-test related engineering experience or two (2) years of experience in a test environment
  • Self-disciplined and self-motivated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain professional candor at all times and remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect
  • Ability to interface with clients to determine their needs and provide a satisfactory outcome
  • Experience working with Quality Management Systems (i.e. ISO 17025, EQMS) and Trade Compliance Regulations (i.e. ITAR or EAR) is desired but not required
  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong professional relationships built on trust
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to the requirements of customer specifications
  • Independent thought and problem solving abilities, including mechanical creativity and resourcefulness
  • Ambition to be productive individually and as part of a team
  • Exhibit professional sense of organization, cleanliness, and presentation
