Lab Supervisor (Media Sterilization)

Element has an opportunity for hiring a Media/Sterilization Laboratory Supervisor to work in a fast-paced environment directing and performing the production of reagents for, and decontamination of, laboratory-based studies evaluating antimicrobial products.  The position (a) supervises the media production/sterilization laboratory staff to ensure lab policies and practices are enforced and annual objectives are met; (b) orders, receives and maintains stock of company supplies maintained in the warehouse (c) assists with production of reagents for daily testing, and (d) assists with design of research and development (R&D) projects when implementing new methods or adapting current methods.



  • Manages all aspects of the media production and sterilization laboratory operations implementing and enforcing new and existing policies and procedures as defined by management. This position will manage both first and second shift for media/sterilization operations
  • Prepares media and reagents per the media schedule or by management request in a timely manner.
  • Manages the media production and sterilization laboratory technicians to assure operations compliant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to provide employee development, guidance and feedback
  • Coordinates and facilitates training of media production and sterilization laboratory tasks for all new and existing lab technicians
  • Continually assesses, adjusts and improves the media production and sterilization laboratory operational processes to maximize productivity and efficiency
  • Communicates/meets regularly with laboratory staff to facilitate procedural changes or address laboratory issues.
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Orders and receives warehouse, general and laboratory materials using routine vendors
  • Oversees employee schedule levels to provide feedback on capacity needs and available capacity
  • Assists with the timely decontamination, washing, cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware and supplies

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s degree preferred in science or related field.
  • Minimum 1-2 years/Preferred 3 – 5 years applicable of experience in a laboratory environment. Management experience preferred.
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (40 CFR Part 160 and 21 CFR Part 58)
  • Knowledge of the principles of media production, sterilization, quality control and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminology.
  • Ability to adapt standard laboratory production & sterilization techniques to meet the demands of specific problems
  • Able to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work unsupervised, make moderate level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively
  • Perform occasional lifting of equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Hear, speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization
  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time and perform long hours of laboratory work requiring manual dexterity
  • Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer keyboarding, dishwashing, and general laboratory procedures
  • Move around the lab area repeatedly throughout the day
