Overview

Analytical Lab Corp, proud to be part of Element,  is seeking a Microbiologist whose primary responsibility is to support laboratory operations by conducting the relevant microbiological testing.The Microbiologist (a) performs and evaluates reusable medical device cleaning and disinfection validations testing, along with sterilization studies; (b) assists in data and report generation while maintaining a high level of scientific integrity; and (c) assists with and designs research and development (R&D) projects when implementing new methods or adapting current methods

 

Responsibilities

  • Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of microbiological assays including basic analytical titrations and serial dilutions in accordance with SOP and protocols under the full guidance and direction of the Study Director
  • Preforms, evaluates and interprets a wide range of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization assays
  • Assists with the development of and performs, evaluates and interprets Research and Development (R&D) projects with the guidance of the Study Director and/or Supervisor, Medical Device Laboratory
  • Assists in implementing new methodologies with the guidance of the Study Director and/or Supervisor, Medical Device Laboratory. Aids in report (data) generation as needed
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Assists with the monitoring, cleaning and decontaminating of laboratory equipment on a routine basis
  • Assists with the review of paperwork generated by the Medical Device Laboratory as necessary
  • Assists with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms
  • Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person
  • Performs testing and lab support in other laboratories as needed (microbiology, virology, chemistry, media, etc.)
  • Responsible for keeping current on applicable environmental health and safety training, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory training
  • Uses computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field required
  • Two to five years’ applicable experience in a microbiology or related lab is preferred
  • Able to become current and stay current with EPA and FDA Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (40 CFR Part 160 and 21 CFR Part 58)
  • Thorough understanding of scientific studies (microbiology assays) in order to problem-solve, develop new test methods, and schedule testing
  • Able to understand published methodology to adapt existing test methods, develop new test methods and ensure accuracy
  • Thorough understanding of governing regulations and pertinent scientific literature to ensure compliance
  • Knowledge of the principles of classical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, and microscopy
  • Knowledge of general analytical procedures including chemical titrations
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminology
  • Ability to adapt standard laboratory techniques and tests to meet the demands of specific problems
  • Ability to make complex mathematical computations, use statistical techniques in the treatment of data, and interpret and apply findings
  • Work as an effective and proactive team-player; understands the importance of supporting the organization, customers and other Analytical Lab Group employees
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Able to give full attention to what other people say, take time to understand the points being made, and ask questions as appropriate
  • Able to use critical thinking, logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
