Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Director of Procurement with responsibility for the Americas Region (Canada, Mexico, and USA). The role is responsible for developing and growing the procurement function within the Americas region of our global business.  

 

This is a new role with responsibility for leading a team and overseeing procurement of goods and services within the region. It is a hands-on role reporting directly the Global Head of Procurement and functionally reporting to the CFO Americas and the Finance team. You will have responsibility for the Procurement teams within the region.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop a commercial Procurement function, aligned to the business’s strategy, responsible for the provision of professional expertise and at the forefront of the development and implementation of procurement
  • Serve as a hands-on, working Director, leading by example, adept with managing a large volume of work with delivery of savings programs for a variety of goods and services
  • Play a comprehensive role building out procurement strategies, implementing processes, working with functional and divisional leaders on prioritizing and executing their purchasing needs
  • Lead the development and delivery of cost saving programs
  • Use of Category Management as the method to deliver benefit out of the vendor base
  • Build effective relationships in the business operating as a trusted business partner providing professional expertise and best practice
  • Create and manage a high performing and cost-effective procurement team with an emphasis on team development, resourcing and stakeholder engagement
  • Accountable for the line management of a team of procurement category managers
  • Responsibility for all aspects of people and team leadership; setting expectations, coaching, counselling, developing, evaluating and feedback
  • Seek, prioritise and deliver significant cost reductions across categories of expenditure making effective use of procurement resources with targeted work activity
  • Introduce and implement Supplier Management with our key vendors to ensure contractual delivery and continuous performance improvement
  • Work closely with the Procurement Operations team to ensure alignment of governance, process and compliance across the Group
  • Actively promote ethical procurement practice and delivery of social value throughout our supply chain

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree educated in an industrial or engineering discipline
  • Professionally qualified individual – ideally MCIPS qualified or have equivalent industry experience
  • Relevant experience at a similar global leadership level
  • A proactive, energetic, pragmatic and inspirational leader with strong people and relationship skills
  • Commercially focused and results driven
  • Superior negotiating and influencing skills both internally and externally
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to build and manage strong relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Highly organised and able to forward plan effectively 
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a busy team, assisting and influencing with work load priorities
  • Capacity to deal with a wide range of stakeholders with conflicting priorities
  • Robust, pragmatic, resilient and diplomatic
  • Comfortable operating in a management environment is open and honest, lean, informal, dynamic and ‘hands-on’.
  • Ability to adapt and change directly when needed and be flexible
