Building Product Evaluation Engineer

Element has an opportunity for a Building Produce Evaluation Engineer.  As a member of the Building Product Evaluation Department, the Associate Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision, typical products to be tested are concrete anchors or other building products such as screws, nails, or other fasteners. 



  • The engineer must be proficient in a number of business and technical skills including but not limited to communication, project planning, problem solving, and the ability to multitask
  • Perform standard or customized mechanical testing in accordance with relevant industry or customer specifications.
  • Prepare equipment, set anchors, and perform all routine concrete anchor tests (mechanical, chemical, channels and cast-in-place) in accordance with applicable test standards
  • Prepare data sheets based on completed tests
  • Ability to analyze test data generated based on either industry standards or customer specifications
  • Closely involved – as a contributing team member – with a variety of assignments with the laboratory
  • Accountable for technical activities of a limited scope and may attain additional responsibilities for release of standard and/or routine data to clients
  • Under the close guidance of advanced Engineers in the laboratory, works on well delineated technical issues including standard and routine analysis
  • Defined work experience has impact on the day to day technical decisions made on timely delivery of laboratory testing services and customer support.
  • Work independently when given instructions. Assist with equipment & materials inventory
  • Maintain test equipment, tools and machinery, and promptly report any malfunctions
  • Maintain a clean, orderly and safe working environment.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred. 
  • Possess strong computer skills, mainly in Microsoft office (Word, and Excel).
  • Experience with solid modeling software preferred
  • Basic mathematical skills incluidng the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and >50 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work on well-defined issues, standard and/or routine tests, with limited supervision in accordance with approved procedures, methods, customer specifications and standards.
  • Adapt at managing job priority and work time in accordance with targets/goals set by supervisor
