  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for an Operations Manager at our Plano, TX laboratory. The primary function of the Operations Manager is to oversee daily operations of an EMC Testing Lab, which includes, but is not limited to managing resources to ensure that delivery and operational objectives, along with customer expectations and requirements, and lab performance objectives are met or exceeded.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible and accountable to drive and deliver to annual Operational Plan commitments, including revenues, profit, working capital, and operational performance
    • Responsible for contributing to the development and execution of both short and long term operational goals through an in-depth understanding of all resource needs within the facility to maintain efficient operations.
    • Participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contract(s)
    • Manages staff, conducts or arranges training, sets priorities, assigns projects, and ensures productivity (including: hiring, firing, performance management, and recognition duties)
    • Assesses staffing needs, and participates in staff recruitment efforts by conducting interviews or attending job fairs
    • Plans and organizes workload and staff assignments
    • Issues written and verbal instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures
    • Actively maintain contact and relationships with customer contacts and participate as necessary to cultivate new accounts by collaborating with Sales and Business Development Team.  Work in concert with Sales and Business Development Team to provide technical expertise and consultation for customers as needed
    • Challenges inefficient or ineffective work processes and offers constructive alternatives
    • Provides guidance, direction, and developmental opportunities that allow staff talents to be identified and groomed.  Likewise, provides direction and counseling to underperforming employees. Builds teamwork, collaboration, and employee engagement
    • Provides positive leadership and representation of Company to the public, customers, vendors, and to all employees through membership in professional organizations, conducting leadership and employee meetings, and visiting work areas
    • Responsible for championing and execution of continuous improvement projects within the facility. This includes a focus on continual improvement of processes and management methods resulting in workflow optimization.
    • Ensures compliance with all Company policies including but not limited to Terms and Conditions, Trade Compliance, treatment of others, moral code of conduct, and Employee Handbook
    • Monitors operational metrics and identifies and resolves operational issues at the earliest stages possible
    • Ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to safety, environment, and corporate governance
    • Applies the principals of 5S (Sort, Set In Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the performance of daily work responsibilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work area
    • Abides by and ensures that all duties are performed in accordance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE), Trade Compliance, and Quality practices, policies, and regulations
    • Maintains customer confidentiality at all times

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a four year college or university plus seven (7) to ten (10) years of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Leadership skills to build and sustain an environment that promotes positive employee relations and where employees can grow and prosper.
    • Self-disciplined and self-motivated
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Dynamics)
    • Ability to maintain professional candor at all times and remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
    • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Strong and effective interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect.
    • Ability to interface with customers to determine their needs and provide a satisfactory outcome
    • Experience working with Quality Management Systems (i.e. ISO 17025 and ITAR Regulations) and Trade Compliance Regulations (i.e. ITAR or EAR)
    • Proven ability to create and maintain strong professional relationships built on trust
    • Independent thought and problem solving abilities including mechanical creativity and resourcefulness.
    • Must have valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record under Element’s policy, or ability to obtain prior to beginning employment
