  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Testing Technician whose primary responsibility is to cut, mount, grind, polish and evaluate test specimens for the disposition of production parts or fixed process approval.   Assist various customer departments with non-metallurgical testing or evaluations as required.  All work is to be performed in accordance with established safety and quality procedures and within the turn time required to meet production requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Section, mount, grind, and polish and evaluate test specimens for the disposition of production parts or fixed process approval
    • Assist various customer departments with non-metallurgical testing or evaluations as required
    • Work is to be performed in accordance with established safety and quality procedures and within the turn time required to meet production requirements
    • Perform sample preparation steps of section, mount, grind, and polish metallurgical test specimens following laboratory procedures published by customer and relevant industry specifications
    • Perform Rockwell Hardness and Microhardness tests following customer procedure
    • Perform metallurgical evaluations for related departments and issue reports
    • Perform weekly and monthly sieve analysis of media for production department
    • Perform titrations and report nickel tank analysis as required
    • Ensure equipment used is calibrated and verify the calibration before use
    • Monitor consumable supplies and keep inventory of supplies at recommended levels
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including 5S of the area

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or related discipline
    • 2-4 years of experience working in a laboratory in the field of metallurgy testing
    • Good knowledge on international standards and codes
    • Excellent report writing skill
    • Good communication skills
    • Self-motivated team playing with excellent organisational and communication skills

    NOTE:  This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services.  U.S. citizenship is required. Any offer of employment is contingent upon the employer obtaining the necessary export authorization, including, if required, an export license from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, or other applicable government agency.
