  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager, based in South Windsor (Hartford), CT with periodic oversight of the Greenville, SC facility to help ensure that the organization operates efficiently through planning and implementing the company safety program within the Hartford facility. 

     

    Responsibilities

    • Act as safety resource to facility team members
    • Assist management with loss control activities
    • Assist in developing test and facility hazards assessment
    • Establish and implement the Safety Health and Environmental company program ensuring regulatory compliance
    • Regularly monitor regulated waste streams for compliance
    • Collect and report data via net-DMR of regulated chemical waste streams
    • Perform and coordinate SHE audits and evaluations
    • Review and monitor subcontractor activities
    • Ensure corrective management action when required
    • Conduct lab loss control data/documentation collection
    • Assist with new hire orientation and training programs
    • Communicate with all levels of personnel
    • Promote employee participation in the SHE program(s)
    • Formulate and conduct training sessions/demonstrations
    • Facilitate the facility safety committee team
    • Ensure that all incident investigations are being completed and are of sufficient quality
    • Exhibit operational knowledge of OSHA, EPA and other pertinent safety standards
    • Distribute new and changing safety related information
    • Ensure maintenance of major safety equipment
    • Coordinate return to work/modified duty program with the assistance of the Human Resources Department

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Minimum experience level: 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or lab setting is preferred but a recent college graduate with a related degree would also be considered for the right candidate
    • A strong understanding of applicable governmental safety and health regulations to include: OSHA, EPA and DOT is desired
    • To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

    • Experience in interpreting testing or sampling procedures and requirements.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
    • Availability, flexibility, and maturity to represent the company at a broad range of events/projects in the community, with customers and within the company. 
    • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities. 
    • Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect. 
    • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time; some overnight travel may be required
