  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Senior Chemist/Material Scientist to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Senior Chemist position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision. The Senior Chemist position must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.



    • Have the ability to work on well-defined issues, standard and/or routine tests, without significant guidance or supervision
    • Takes Initiative and, in most cases, does not need to wait for further instruction
    • Able to decide on and implement appropriate testing methods and protocols
    • Supervise lab staff, leads and assigns the work of others when needed
    • Analytical/technical knowledge provides a marked impact on overall laboratory technical capabilities and services
    • Adapt at managing job priority and work time in accordance with targets/goals set by manager
    • Defined work experience has impact on the day to day technical decisions made on timely delivery of laboratory testing services and customer support
    • Recognized by colleagues within the lab as possessing strong technical knowledge.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
    • Practical experience with laboratory instrumentation including GC/MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV/VIS Spectrophotometer, DSC, TGA, TMA, and ICP/MS
    • Experience with Automotive VOC analysis
    • Possess a high level of expertise related to scope, core theories, concepts, terminologies and boundaries of polymeric materials testing and analysis
    • Ability to train, coach, and support lab staff
    • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization, as well as customers
    • Possess a Bachelors of Science degree in a science or testing related field
    • Have a minimum of 4 years’ pertinent post degree experience
    • Possesses a demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge within the context of Element’s business
    • In-depth understanding of testing concepts
    • Can analyze and compiles testing data from the tests performed
    • Possess strong computer skills
    • Must possess a good attitude and have a willingness to show up ready to work.
    • Must be able to work under strict time constraints and be able to multi-task effectively, both alone and within a team.
    • Must be a self-starter willing to put in extra hours, as needed.
    • Overtime will be regularly required to meet customer requirements
    • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities
