  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Quality Engineer whose primary responsibility is to support day-to-day Quality Assurance activities and manage the Quality System.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Support the Quality Manager to provide leadership and a clear understanding of quality standards in developing and maintaining a quality system that meets the requirement of ISO 17025 and the Element location Quality Manual
    • Implement and maintain the laboratory quality system, reporting on the performance of the quality system for review and as a basis for improvement of the system
    • Act as liaison with customers, vendors, and staff to answer inquiries, concerns, and complaints
    • In conjunction with staff, write, review and/or approve test procedures, training documents, position responsibilities, and calibration and maintenance of equipment in accordance with industry standards, customer requirements, and Element Corporate SPs
    • In conjunction with department managers, ensure the maintenance and calibration of test equipment is always up to date
    • Administer all functions of the quality system, including but not limited to, audits, calibrations, corrective actions, and the selection of test equipment, employee qualification, complaints, and document control
    • Communicate audit results, quality metrics, quality system deficiencies, or concerns regarding the quality of data to the location management 
    • Proficiency in Solid Works to facilitate and generate internal drawings
    • Prepare and respond to customer and accreditation bodies including coordination and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
    • Partner with laboratory supervision to meet customers’ expectations while maintaining the necessary independence to assure data integrity
    • Maintain updated copies of applicable matrices, tables, and associated quality documentation, including Nadcap checklists, ISO 17025 checklists, and other like documents
    • Perform method audits of all procedures for testing, preparation, and calibration according to the frequency established, as well as, train and qualify others in the organization to assist with method audits
    • Motivate and maintain a positive attitude toward the quality system by recognizing and rewarding quality performance 
    • In conjunction with department managers, ensure proper training and qualification occurs, at the frequency required by industry standards, internal procedures, customer requirements, and Element Corporate SPs
    • Support process improvement activities

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Intimate knowledge of ISO quality systems.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the development and implementation of ISO 17025 accredited quality systems at a QE level; or extensive experience functioning under ISO 17025 or ISO 9001 accredited systems in a technical or quality-related capacity.
    • Strong technical background involving metals testing evaluation in a captive or commercial laboratory environment
    • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong moral and work ethic
    • Proven leadership skills
    • Recognition by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as one or more of the following professional attainment would be helpful in this job:  
      • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA);
      • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
    • Able to handle multiple functions and prioritize effort
    • Knowledge of Quality/LIMS systems
    • Team building and maintenance
    • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
    • Market and industry knowledge
    • Ability to "Listen to Understand"
    • Ability to delegate, hold others accountable, and communicate expectations
    • Experience as a team leader, coach, teacher, friend, and communicator
    • Ability to establish and maintain relationships
    • Understand accounting and finance fundamentals
    • Management, leadership, and teambuilding are valuable skills
    • Facilitation, strategic planning, and sales experience can be valuable to this position
    • Training in addition to college coursework to learn and upgrade skills will enhance the probability of success in the position
