  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Senior Microbiologist whose primary responsibility is to support our food micro laboratory operations by conducting the relevant microbiological testing.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Provide essential microbiological analytical laboratory services for food and beverage manufacturers, private sectors, commodity exporters companies and food industry in line with Element's standards
    • Prepare and execute analyses that meet AOAC/AFNOR/ISO requirements for food testing

    • Utilize aseptic techniques during sample preparation and microbiological/chemical analyses

    • Prepare test solutions, media and reagents

    • Maintain proper labeling, handling, storage, use, and disposal of solutions, biohazard and hazardous waste, and microbiological cultures

    • Perform serial dilutions and enumerate target microorganisms according to standard operating procedures

    • Detect pathogens that may cause foodborne illness using DNA and Protein-based methods.

    • Prepare and sterilize culture media

    • Maintain and verify general laboratory equipment

    • Document and record accurate data using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

    • Manage time and tasks efficiently while maintaining an exceptional quality of work

    • Think independently while leading in a team environment

    • Maintain accurate records of all performed procedures in assisting in implementation of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 in the laboratory
    • Designs, sets-up and performs a variety of tests according to customer specifications and requirements
    • Requires little supervision and technical input of a Lab Supervisor or Operations Manager
    • Possesses the ability to mentor and train technicians who have less experience through effective communication of technical data

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Must have earned a degree in related testing or science field and/or possess min
    • 3-6 years of experience in a testing environment
    • In-depth understanding of testing concepts
    • Strong computer skills. Working knowledge of laboratory safety
    • Analyzes and compiles testing data from the tests performed

    NOTE:  This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services.  U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), or U.S. Government export authorization is required.
