Overview

The Radiographic NDT Technician I – Trainee is an entry-level position designed to provide foundational training and practical experience in Radiographic Testing (RT) and related nondestructive testing (NDT) methods. The trainee will work under the direct supervision of certified NDT personnel to learn proper techniques, safety requirements, and industry standards while progressing toward certification and independent work.

 

Salary: $20- $22/hour (Depending on Experience) 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist certified NDT Technicians in performing radiographic inspections on materials, welds, and components.

  • Learn and apply basic knowledge of radiation safety protocols, including proper use of dosimeters, shielding, and exposure devices.

  • Prepare and organize equipment, tools, and materials required for radiographic testing.

  • Handle, store, and transport radiographic equipment safely and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.

  • Accurately document test results, observations, and daily activities under supervision.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Actively participate in company-sponsored training, classroom instruction, and on-the-job practice toward NDT Level I certification.

  • Follow all applicable company, OSHA, and NRC/Agreement State safety regulations.

Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in welding, mechanics, or related field preferred.

  • Interest in pursuing a career in nondestructive testing with willingness to complete certification requirements.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely in industrial environments.

  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn.

  • Basic math and computer skills for data entry and measurement calculations.

Training & Development

  • On-the-job training under direct supervision of certified Radiographic NDT Technicians.

  • Classroom and field instruction to prepare for NDT Level I certification in Radiographic Testing (RT).

Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying environmental conditions.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including radiation dosimetry badges.

  • Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, or crouching as required by inspection tasks.
