Seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer for the Technical Services Group (TSG) within Element Product Qualification Testing (PQT) division. The TSG is responsible for overseeing standardization and ensuring technical excellence across the entire network of Aerospace PQT laboratories. This division covers a wide breadth of testing such as Cryogenic, Steam, Fuel, Hydraulic, Climatic, Electrical, Mechanical and more. The Senior Test Automation Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of standardized, flexible, and extensible test stand Data Acquisition and Control Systems (DACS) software to streamline testing operations across all PQT facilities. In addition, the Senior Software Engineer will support specific projects at various facilities as needed. Salary: $130,000 - $180,000/yr DOE
• Evaluate a broad spectrum of test stand requirements and identify key DACS characteristics
• Develop flexible and extensible software with intuitive GUI that can be deployed across multiple facilities to support a variety of test requirements and is usable by technicians at all levels
• Interface with Element personnel and vendors to procure and/or manufacture software and hardware components required for Data Acquisition & Control systems.
• Implement system safety requirements to mitigate identified hazards with the test system.
• Oversee and provide hands-on approach to integration and checkout of DACS.
• Develop DACS test and checkout procedures to validate test system operation.
• Train personnel in the operation, customization, and extension of the DACS modules
• Develop and review test reports for correct application and use of the DACS.
• Work closely with the test organizations and assist or lead problem/conflict evaluation and identification of solutions as applicable to DACS requirements.
• Develop training materials for instructing colleagues and defining and establishing best practices across multiple sites.
• Maintain proficiency on new and evolving Data Acquisition & Control system technology.
• Continuous evaluation of processes and identification of improvements.
• Recommend new/change to policies and procedures to the TSG to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Evaluate and recommend test equipment, services and enhancements to include capital investments.
• Be aware of and enforce quality and environmental, safety, system safety and health requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• BS Degree, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline, advanced degree preferred.
• 5-10+ years technical experience in specifying, programming and use of Data acquisition and control systems typical to climatics, dynamics, electrical, and fluid/mechanical testing. This will include but not be limited to:
• LabView based Data Acquisition & Control systems (PXI, CDaq, CRio, FPGA, etc.)
• Solid understanding of data acquisition fundamentals and interfaces (sampling, filtering, DSP, RS232, GPIB, OPENCan, etc.)
• Application, system integration, and signal conditioning of pressure, temperature, flow, acceleration, load cells, LVDT, RVDT, strain gauge, etc. sensors into DACS
• Calibration standards and processes for test instruments
• Experience with Military and Aerospace and other commercial compliance standards typical to climatics, dynamics, nuclear, and fluid/mechanical testing.
• Must have a proven technical record in design, integration and test of data acquisition and control systems in a test environment
• Must be a self-starter, have the ability to consistently deliver at a high level with minimum supervision and maintain continuous communications with subordinates, peers and upper management personnel
• Ability and willingness to travel, as required
• Ability to negotiate through conflicting demands for resources and manage time to drive overall organizational success.
• Ability to evaluate tools and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Experience developing software in a team environment using version control, build automation, bug tracking, and similar processes/technologies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
