The UT Technical Plan Development Engineer is responsible for developing detailed Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspection plans in alignment with client specifications, project requirements, and Element’s operating procedures. Working closely with UT Level 3 personnel, and operations teams, the engineering intern plays a critical role in onboarding new parts and defining inspection scopes for repeatable success
This role ensures that each UT plan is designed with safety, repeatability, and efficiency in mind—supporting consistent, high-quality inspections and long-term client satisfaction.
Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 /year (Depending on Experience)
• Develop and document UT scan plans based on engineering specifications, drawings, and part requirements.
• Maintain a central log of UT techniques for assigned locations and projects.
• Collaborate with UT Level 2 and Level 3 personnel to understand part geometry, service conditions, inspection requirements, and equipment capabilities.
• Revise and update existing UT techniques to align with evolving standards, technologies, and project needs.
• Conduct basic research on standards and best practices in ultrasonic inspection.
• Support CAD-based illustration tasks for inspection plan visuals.

Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Familiarity with engineering drawings and mechanical components.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Exposure to CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is desirable.
• Interest in learning about UT methods, including phased array and conventional UT.
• Detail-oriented with a willingness to ensure documentation accuracy.
• Coursework or interest in NDT, materials science, or inspection technologies is a plus.
• Able to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
• Willingness to learn technical writing for scan plan documentation.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
• Willing to learn how to apply these concepts to UT inspection paths and component layouts
• Strong problem-solving interest with a practical mindset.
• Open to coaching in technical standards interpretation and planning logic.
Work Environment
• Work is primarily performed indoors in an office, lab, or controlled environment at an Element Lab or at the customer site.
• Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including noise, heat, cold, and confined spaces.
• Strict adherence to radiation safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and all company/site-specific safety requirements.
• Proper use of PPE (e.g., safety glasses, gloves) is mandatory.
