Overview

The OMAX Waterjet Operator (on shift 1) is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of OMAX abrasive waterjet cutting systems to cut a wide variety of materials with precision. This role requires familiarity with OMAX IntelliMAX software, machine calibration, and reading blueprints or CAD files. The operator ensures efficient, high-quality output while maintaining safety and cleanliness in the work environment.

 

Salary: $25- $30/hour (depending on experience)

Shift 1: 6am - 2:30pm 

 

Responsibilities

  • Operate OMAX waterjet equipment (e.g., OMAX 55100, OptiMAX, GlobalMAX) to cut materials according to job specifications.
  • Set up jobs using IntelliMAX software and import DXF or CAD files for precision cutting.
  • Select appropriate garnet, nozzle, and cutting parameters based on material type and thickness.
  • Inspect and measure cut parts to verify conformance to drawings using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Perform daily and routine maintenance on OMAX machines, including pump checks, nozzle replacement, and garnet management.
  • Load and secure materials onto the machine bed using lifting equipment or manually as appropriate.
  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot cutting or programming issues.
  • Document work performed, complete production reports, and maintain job records.
  • Communicate with engineers and programmers to clarify design intent or resolve technical challenges.
  • Follow all safety protocols including PPE use, safe lifting techniques, and proper garnet handling.

Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in CNC or manufacturing preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating CNC waterjet systems, preferably OMAX.
  • Strong proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD files, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with OMAX IntelliMAX or similar CNC control software.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
  • Basic understanding of shop math, material properties, and edge tolerances.

Work Environment: 

  • Wet and Noisy Conditions: The waterjet cutting process creates water spray, mist, and high noise levels. Hearing protection and waterproof gear may be required.

  • Industrial Setting: Work is performed in a manufacturing facility with concrete floors, large cutting machinery, and material handling equipment.

  • Physical Demands: The role involves prolonged periods of standing, bending, lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), and repetitive motion tasks.

  • Protective Equipment: Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots, must be worn at all times.

  • Exposure to Moving Equipment: Regular interaction with high-pressure water systems, gantries, and abrasive cutting tools requires strict adherence to safety protocols.

  • Temperature Variation: The facility may not be climate-controlled; operators should be prepared to work in varying temperatures based on the season.
