Overview

The Senior Emissions Technician is responsible for leading and executing all technical and operational aspects of stationary source air emissions testing projects. This role involves managing logistics, supervising field staff, maintaining safety and compliance, and ensuring high-quality data collection and reporting. The Senior Emissions Technician serves as the field lead, coordinating closely with clients, regulatory representatives, and internal teams to deliver efficient and compliant testing services.
 
Compensation: $35-$45/hour (Depending on Experience)

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the logistics of project resources by coordinating with the Department Manager prior to field testing events.
  • Oversee all technical and administrative aspects of stationary source emissions testing programs and projects.
  • Manage onsite schedules and act as the primary point of contact with client plant personnel and regulatory agencies regarding scope changes or site-specific requirements.
  • Lead and manage daily field operations, including all safety procedures and protocols for stack testing activities.
  • Determine and coordinate project timelines and ensure adherence to deliverables.
  • Supervise mobilization and demobilization processes for emissions testing events, ensuring all equipment and personnel are properly prepared.
  • Ensure field test teams are appropriately staffed and trained for all assigned tasks; provide leadership, mentorship, and on-the-job training to Emissions Technician I and II team members.
  • Perform and oversee RATA (Relative Accuracy Test Audit) testing and ensure accurate, high-quality reporting.
  • Conduct detailed data review and field quality control to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal protocols.
  • Assess regulatory requirements and site-specific data to develop test plans and prepare technical reports.
  • Operate mobile laboratories and emissions testing equipment in accordance with applicable EPA, state, and industry standards.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in air emissions or stack testing, with proven leadership in field operations.
  • Strong understanding of EPA and state air quality regulations and testing methodologies.
  • Experience with RATA testing, test plan development, and data QA/QC.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams, logistics, and client relationships.
  • Proficient in emissions testing instrumentation, calibration, and software tools.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently and work in outdoor industrial environments.
  • Certification in Method 5, 7E, 10, 25A, or other EPA reference methods. (preferred).
  • Experience in leading field testing programs across multiple industries (e.g., power, manufacturing, chemical) (preferred).
Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms for extended periods.
  • Field-based position requiring regular travel to client sites.
  • Exposure to industrial environments, including noise, dust, heat, and emissions.
  • Use of PPE required; company provides all necessary safety gear and training.
