Element has an opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our Polymer Materials Testing Team at our Houston TX location. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer with a strong background in Polymer Science and Material Testing to lead and manage customer-facing technical projects. This individual will serve as a key interface between our customers and internal teams, ensuring accurate interpretation of technical requirements, effective quoting, and timely delivery of test results and reports.
The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator, technically strong in polymer materials, and capable of running mechanical and compatibility tests hands-on in the lab.
Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 yearly DOE
This is a hands-on role and will require physical work in the lab. It also requires project management of multiple simultaneous projects ranging from a few days to 6 months in duration.
• Manage technical customer projects from quotation through report delivery
• Provide technical and engineering leadership. Engage directly with customers to understand technical requirements, clarify test scopes, and communicate project status.
• Conduct or oversee lab-based tests, including compatibility and mechanical testing under various temperatures and environmental conditions.
• Oversee and guide problem solving of complicated technical challenges and provide solutions.
• Accountable for accurate and timely release of testing data to customers
• Provide counsel to coworkers and customers requiring critical analysis of data.
• Assist in the professional development of novice technicians and engineers within the laboratory.
• Draw on internal knowledge and industry and/or academic resources in reaching testing conclusions.

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or related field
• Have a minimum of 5 years pertinent post-degree engineering experience, polymer testing experience, or advanced academic/professional qualifications
• Have a minimum 2 years of experience in technical project management
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical and compatibility testing, especially involving fluids and variable conditions.
• Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Be confident making presentations on conventional and/or routine testing to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Comfortable working hands-on in a lab environment and capable of executing tests independently when needed.
• Have a depth of knowledge and understanding of polymer materials and general materials testing concepts
• Have a working knowledge of laboratory safety practices
Work Environment:
• This role is primarily onsite, working in a lab and office setting.
• Regular interaction with laboratory equipment, chemicals, and test materials will be required.
• Regular use of personal protective equipment
• Standard working hours with some flexibility based on project deadlines.
• Collaborative and technical environment where cross-functional teamwork and problem-solving are essential.
