Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Test Technician in our Wixom, MI lab, to safely perform work in accordance with established SOP and QA procedures in conducting Material and Metallurgical Testing within the laboratory.

 

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of test samples by sectioning with precision abrasive saws and mounting/grinding/polishing of specimens
  • Hardness testing: Vickers and Knoop
  • Macro and micro photography
  • Basic metallurgical testing: coating thickness, case depth, image analysis, etc
  • Summarizes test results using basic mathematical calculations and data reductions
  • Testing is conducted on many alloys including aluminum, steel,s stainless steel, titanium, copper, etc.
  • Maintain related test equipment, tools and machinery in good working condition

Skills / Qualifications

  • 1-2 years in the TIC sector is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Experience in interpreting testing procedures and requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities. 
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs
