The Project Manager – Aerospace Testing is responsible for overseeing multiple complex, high-value aerospace projects involving material testing, customer coordination, and vendor management. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring projects stay on schedule, technical needs are met, and outsourced testing is successfully coordinated. Managing 10–20 projects at any given time, the Project Manager plays a critical role in balancing speed, quality, and communication in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000/year (depending on experience)
Serve as the primary liaison between aerospace customers and internal technical teams.
Manage multiple concurrent aerospace testing projects with timelines ranging from 2 to 6 months.
Review customer purchase orders and project scopes to develop clear work breakdown structures and project schedules.
Answer routine technical questions and coordinate with Senior Technical Specialists or Engineers for more complex inquiries.
Maintain proactive communication with customers regarding project status, milestones, delays, and deliverables.
Provide accurate, detailed project timelines and ensure adherence to customer deadlines and specifications.
Coordinate internal resources (machining, testing, quality) to ensure project execution meets technical and time requirements.
Manage outsourced or subcontracted testing vendors: track status, ensure deliverables are on time, and maintain quality compliance.
Monitor overall project performance, resolve issues, and drive escalation procedures when necessary.
Maintain organized project documentation including schedules, change orders, meeting notes, and test records.
Collaborate with sales, quality, and technical planning to ensure a seamless customer experience and high service standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in project management, ideally within aerospace, materials testing, or a manufacturing environment.
Proven ability to manage multiple high-volume, complex technical projects simultaneously.
Excellent customer-facing communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.
Strong understanding of project management tools, documentation practices, and time management techniques.
Ability to interpret technical documents (test plans, specifications, POs) and coordinate accordingly.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar).
Familiarity with aerospace materials testing standards (ASTM, AMS, Nadcap, etc.).
Experience managing third-party vendors or subcontractors.
PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
Previous work in a customer-facing technical services role.
Work Setting:
This position is primarily office-based within a dynamic aerospace testing or materials lab environment. Regular communication with internal technical teams and external vendors is expected, along with occasional walk-throughs of the testing or machining areas.
Physical Activity:
Sitting: Frequent, for extended periods while working on schedules, documentation, and customer communication.
Standing/Walking: Occasional, particularly when meeting with technicians, inspecting project progress, or coordinating with teams on the shop floor.
Lifting: Minimal (typically under 15 lbs); may include documents, laptops, or small material samples.
Typing and Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of computers and other office equipment.
Environment:
Noise Level: Generally quiet in office settings; moderate when present in lab or machine shop areas.
Temperature: Typical indoor office climate; occasional exposure to variable temperatures in production or testing areas.
Safety Equipment: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses or closed-toe shoes may be required when entering testing or machine shop areas.
Schedule:
Full-time, standard business hours with occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines or customer demands.
Flexibility to support urgent customer communications or vendor coordination across time zones may be required.
