Element has an opportunity for a Materials Engineer at the Materials Lab embedded within the Rolls Royce manufacturing facility. This role will provide technical assistance to the Rolls Royce customer and Element co-workers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. Element is driving toward achieving a NADCAP quality system accreditation. All job duties and functions support accreditation efforts.
Salary: $65,000 - $85,000.00 yearly DOE
• Provide technical guidance and support to lab technicians and requestors.
• Meet and interact with Rolls Royce requesters to define evaluation processes and techniques.
• Review existing procedures for accuracy and compliance to NADCAP standards
• Perform sample preparation steps of section, mount, grind, and polish metallurgical test specimens following laboratory procedures published by customer and relevant industry specifications.
• Perform Tensile, Rockwell Hardness and Microhardness tests per ASTM E8/A370, ASTM E18 and ASTM E384.
• Perform metallurgical evaluations and issue reports. Evaluations include grain size per ASTM E112, intergranular attack/oxidation per ASTM F2111, traditional/abusive machining evaluation, SEM/EDS analysis of debris and contamination, coating and plating thickness, and others.
• Perform weekly and monthly sieve analysis of media for production department.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including 5S and preventative maintenance.
Required:
4 Year Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
2+ years of experience with metallurgical testing in a laboratory environment
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Preferred:
NADCAP or ISO quality system exposure or experience
Aerospace industry exposure or experience
