Overview

Element is seeking a Metallurgist to join our dynamic team. This role is critical in supporting the Metallurgy Lab Manager in day-to-day operations, field testing, and technical reporting. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in failure analysis, corrosion testing, and metallographic evaluations to ensure high-quality, ISO-compliant service to our clients.

 

Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 DOE 

 

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards and internal quality procedures.
• Conduct failure analysis on ferrous and non-ferrous metallic components; prepare detailed investigation reports outlining root causes and technical findings.
• Perform corrosion testing in accordance with NACE standards and other project specifications to assess material durability in varying service conditions.
• Carry out metallographic examinations, including grain size analysis, cleanliness assessment, phase percentage analysis, and general microstructure evaluation.
• Collaborate directly with clients and third-party inspectors to align on test parameters, expectations, and reporting deliverables.
• Support ad-hoc tasks and initiatives that contribute to departmental and organizational goals.

Skills / Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in metallurgical testing and laboratory analysis.
• Proven expertise (5+ years) in failure analysis techniques and methodologies.
• Strong command of technical report writing, capable of communicating complex findings clearly and concisely.
• Solid mathematical proficiency and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with metallurgical testing equipment and lab safety protocols.
• Excellent organizational and team coordination skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, both written and verbal.

Work Environment:
• This position requires regular work in both laboratory and industrial field settings.
• Exposure to chemicals, machinery, and materials used in metallurgical testing is common.
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
• May require occasional lifting of equipment or samples (up to 50 lbs.) and extended periods of standing or microscope use.
• The role may involve occasional travel to client sites or for field inspections.
• A strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and collaboration is essential in this high-responsibility technical role.
