Overview

Element has an opening for a Lab Supervisor position at our extractables and leachables facility in Bend, OR. The Lab Supervisor will be responsible for managing processes as related to lab activities including but not limited to training, recruiting, scheduling, process execution of lab activities, equipment ownership and document management. The success of this role depends on and requires proactive, effective collaboration with other departments and effective communication with the team. This role requires someone that is self-motivated, who takes initiative on process improvements and encourages debate and then commitment to a decision. This role exercises a risk-based approach when confronted with issues and proposes resolutions. Provides mentorship to junior staff through discussion, support and experience. Serves as an SME to the lab and uses good judgement to escalates questions or concerns as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and leadership to lab staff
  • Point person for lab related questions
  • Engage, motivate and support lab staff
  • Responsible for continuing to provide feedback for issues
  • Model proper performance of lab support activities, sample preparations, etc., through hands-on performance
  • Training
  • Responsible for initiating and coordinating new Chemist 1 / 2 (as applicable)
  • Monitoring timelines and progression
  • Providing feedback to other managers on performance (as applicable)
  • Regularly assess gaps, constraints and define needs for lab trainings
  • Lab scheduling
  • Responsible for weekly lab scheduling, including coordination with other stakeholders
  • Responsible for coordinating changes to the schedule when issues arise
  • Responsible to ensure that scheduled lab activities support monthly project timelines and revenue goals
  • Oversees and manages lab related document revisions, CCR’s, etc. Delegates and collaborates with other departments
  • Lab equipment/materials
  • Assess and communicate OPEX and CAPEX needs
  • Oversite of chemical inventory and glassware needs
  • Performs organizational activities that are needed to set the lab up for success and increase efficiency
  • Proactively problem solve and provide innovative solutions that consider people, quality, customer needs and Element – Bend growth
  • Perform additional activities and duties as needed based on the needs of the team and company

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field
  • 3-5 years experience in a laboratory setting with cGMP experience preferred
  • Strong teamwork, organizational and leadership skills
  • Experience with sample preparation such as analytical standards, LLE and SPE
