Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Gainesville, GA.

Element Gainesville focuses on battery safety and performance testing and failure analysis, in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, medical devices, wearables, and other applications.

 

As a member of the operations team, the Battery Testing Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the Battery department by delivering assigned projects, ensuring timely and accurate test results for our customers under minimal direct supervision.

 

An Engineer in this position would support third party testing for variety of battery testing projects including large EV Pack Level programs, by supporting design of test profiles based on customer provided specifications & standards, writing scripts and programs for a variety of battery cycler/test stand controllers, and ensuring accurate, quality test results are provided to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, manage, and conduct on-site testing of customer provided products based on provided standards or specifications. This includes understanding designs and schematics, validating project scope, equipment test setup and script writing, as well as delivering customer results
  • Core testing includes various battery cycling tests, vibration, temperature/humidity soak
  • Provide technical and engineering leadership, supporting the development of new technologies and new test setups for custom battery testing requests
  • Simultaneously support multiple projects, accountable for accurate and timely release of testing data to customers including writing reports
  • Oversee standard and/or routine technical problem solving activities
  • Communicate project status and test results to customer, commercial team members, and management throughout testing, while providing on-going technical support to clients throughout the project
  • Provide input and support on business development opportunities with new or existing customers
  • Setup and operate standard testing equipment across sites, including battery cyclers, test stand controllers such as temperature/humidity chambers, various test controllers, power supplies, etc.
  • Assist in the professional development of novice technicians and other engineers within the local laboratories
  • Be adept at drawing on internal knowledge as well as industry and/or academic resources in reaching testing conclusions

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a science or testing related field – preferred focus in electrical
  • Preferred knowledge in battery testing systems such as Maccors and Neware
  • Knowledge of cells, batteries, modules, EV packs, and/or Electrical Energy Storage Systems and regulatory testing
  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety and quality management systems (preferred ISO17025)
  • Must be self-motivated and adaptable, able to work independently in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, organization, time-management, and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply academic knowledge within the context of battery testing services
  • In-depth understanding of testing concepts; able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in diagrams or mathematical form, and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possess strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
