Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Testing Technician (3rd Shift) to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Mechanical Testing Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.  The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares material specimens for testing
  • Performs tests as directed by customer specifications
  • At times operates under the supervision of a more senior test technician and/or a Department Manager
  • Gathers and records test data
  • Maintains a safe work environment
  • Constructs and maintains various test fixtures and other laboratory equipment to ensure proper working order with little supervision
  • Fatigue Testing – Perform Low and High Cycle fatigue testing under direction of senior technicians/department manager.
  • Fatigue Crack Growth- Perform testing in accordance with ASTM E647.
  • Fracture Mechanics Testing – Perform testing in accordance with ASTM E399, E561, and E1820.
  • Monotonic Testing- Perform tensile, compression in accordance with ASTM E8, E9, and E21.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a testing related field
  • Basic understanding of testing concepts
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
     

Physical Demands:

 

  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and >50 lbs. on occasion
