Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Senior Coatings Test Technician to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Senior Coatings Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision. The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Designs, sets-up and performs a variety of tests according to customer specifications and requirements
  • Safely operate and maintain our Coatings equipment and related apparatus in compliance with company and International Standards requirements
  • Carry out calibration and preventative maintenance of test chambers and assessment equipment.
  • Perform assessments of test pieces after completion of test protocol
  • Requires little supervision and technical input of a Department Manager, Principal Technician, Project Coordinator or Engineer
  • Possesses the ability to mentor and train technicians who have less experience through effective communication of technical data
  • Ability to transfer technical knowledge / requirements and successfully satisfy and meet customer specifications
  • Plan, manage and deliver Coatings projects as provided and directed by the Project Managers or Department Manager
  • Work with the Project Managers to plan and execute Client and Client witness visits
  • Support the monitoring and maintenance of test equipment, keep accurate logs of test pieces, solutions manufacture, temperatures and pH levels of tests
  • Keep and maintain accurate equipment and specimen logs
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure timely delivery of projects
  • Upload projects to LIMS and prepare and log test pieces for testing according to specified internal or International Standard
  • Prepare basic Coatings test reports
  • Work is to be performed in accordance with established QA and International Standards procedures for testing of Coating systems

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed
  • Possesses a recognized scientific or engineering qualification, normally at a Bachelor degree level and/or 6-8 years of significant experience in a testing related field through which an equivalent level of knowledge has been attained
  • In-depth understanding of testing concepts
  • Analyzes and compiles testing data from the tests performed
  • Possess strong computer skills
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
